The Good Stuff

By

This is a list of consumables I like. It’s mostly put together for friends to find my recommendations easily. ❤

Powder Sunscreen

This is good for when you want to go for a little walk, but don’t want to put oily sunscreen on your face and make your hair all greasy.

I use this one from Hawaiian Tropic for no particular reason. It’s cheaper than others, has a nice built-in brush, and is at most Targets locally. Be sure to tap it to get the powder flowing into the brush before you use it.

Cons: it’s scented. Sometimes you get stray visible powder on like, your lip or something, but a quick check in the mirror fixes that up.

Luxardo Cherries

These maraschino cherries are the good ones. They have a texture someone else on the internet correctly called “toothsome”, and are great with cocktails or over ice cream. When I serve them to my friends, they smile extra.

They are, tragically, about $20/jar, but they do last. IMO, worth the splurge. I’ve tried a few other brands, but none of them have come close to these guys.

Milkjam Ice Cream

Milkjam is both the name of an ice cream shop and the name of their signature flavor. Sorry if this gets confusing.

I don’t think Milkjam could make an ice cream I didn’t love. But I go for their signature flavor if someone is down for ice cream but doesn’t know/care what kind.

This guy is a combo of caramelized goat’s milk, normal milk, and condensed milk. It’s what you might be looking for in a sweet cream or a vanilla, but offers a little more interest with a tang reminiscent of salted caramel.

It’s sweet and creamy enough that it’s unlikely to upset the vanilla fan, but has a complexity and generous milk-fat percentage to satisfy more peculiar palettes. Milkjam’s stuff is generally potent– I like to serve it in 2-ounce cordial glasses or espresso cups.

I usually like Milkjam’s other ice creams, too. Their chocolates are awesome (particularly their Mexican Hot Cocoa), Thai Tea, and any of their seasonals with floral notes… But those aren’t always as well-received by company.

Latte Milks

These are my favorite oat milks for morning coffee. I prefer the shelf-stable tetra-pak packages, but I guess plant milks got so popular so fast that people didn’t learn you can safely make ’em shelf-stable. I often find them mis-shelved in the refrigerated section, or find that they discontinued the shelf-stable packaging for refrigerator-only ones that live next to the dairy milk.

I guess it’s fine, but it’s worse for the environment and less convenient to store. It makes me a little sad, but not as sad as not having nice oat milk.

Sunscreens for Working Outside

I like this one for my face when I’m working outside. (Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Serum SPF 60+)

I like this one for my body when I’m working outside. I prefer the SPF 100, but I think they discontinued it. (Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF 70) I particularly like this spray because it doesn’t stain costumes or bathing suits and goes on clear.

Face Care

I like this moisturizer when I want one with SPF.

This is the only eye product that made my under-eyes not look purpley. I guess my skin there’s just thin?

Stoneworks Laundry Detergent

I like this one. It comes in little pods for less mess (assuming they don’t pack it wrong in shipping…), smells nice but not overwhelmingly-so, and doesn’t look like something I want to snack on. Works well, been using it for four years.

Demeter Fragrance Body Wash

Aloe-based body washes seem to work best for me. I’ve been using one from Demeter for a while now. I like it enough that I’ve accidentally added it to this list twice.

Deodorant

I like pro-biotic ones, they seem to last longest and leave the least residue. My favorite is this one. I’ve used some by Hume and liked them okay, but would only use their unscented option.

Telesis Makeup Remover

This stuff is great. I’ve used Telesis Super Solv on lipstick, eyelash glue, prosthetic ears, whatever. It’s the only adhesive remover I’ve ever ran out of. It’s always in my work kit. I use an alcohol swab afterwards so the area is back to normal if I’m doing a gig the following morning.
